Hi everyone!

I've been working on a Sociological project for some time now.

Evil Eye: A Cultural Perspective

All around the world, across cultures and throughout history, the concept of success and good fortune attracting (you guessed it) bad luck and misfortune due to the power of the Evil Eye-- has been quite popular.

Even today, the belief is quite prevalent in many regions and countries, including the Middle East, South America and India.

The question is, how does the EYE affect how people perceive society?

Does it lead to a largely negative outlook on life where every success is envied by others and cursed?

Does it result in any dangerous superstitions (like in the Middle Ages' notorious witch-hunts)?

How come the belief has existed for literally aeons (the earliest nazar amulets, found in Mesopotamia, modern-day Syria, date back to 3,300 BCE) across so many cultures?

Does the universality of the concept provide any evidence for the actual existence of the phenomenon? If so many people believe in it, it must have some substance to it, surely?

And how, why does this belief persist to this day in most cultures? What has led to it being unquestioningly accepted and passed on through generations?

Do you believe in this idea of the evil eye? Or are you interested in why so many people do?

Help me find out, by filling out this form:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfbUbmKg35QSIFvzx9qW1jbCwLQfKhZB32hbN_sQUb_hcCM3w/viewform?c=0&w=1

If you find this socio-cultural concept as intriguing as I do, please share this survey with as many people as you can! The more cultures, the merrier! Eye'll be forever grateful!

(Pardon my evil pun.)
